Rainy Day Activities: Look into outer space at Jodrell Bank

Macclesfield, Cheshire

Cutting-edge astronomy and interactive displays wow visitors to the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre, home of the magnificent Lovell Telescope.

The towering white form of the world-famous Lovell Telescope is a star attraction at the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre. This is the third largest telescope of its kind on Earth, and has been delving deep into space from its spot of Cheshire greenery in Northern England for over 50 years. Interactive games and hands-on indoor activities at the Planet Pavilion and Space Pavilion help all ages explore some of the big questions surrounding our universe, and the Galaxy Gardens are a beautiful new addition.

The gardens feature a wealth of fascinating trees and plants given to renowned astronomer Sir Bernard Lovell on his trips around the world, along with two national tree collections: Sorbus and Malus which have wonderful displays of spring blossom, followed by a stunning display of berries, fruits in the autumn.

Jodrell Bank is 45 minutes by car from Manchester, and 3 hours 30 minutes from central London.
