Enjoy a boat trip on Canal River Trust's Waterways

Anderton, Cheshire

Spend your weekend exploring Cheshire’s incredible waterways, at Anderton Boat Lift and the National Waterways Museum.

Stand in awe at Anderton Boat Lift, an amazing structure built to lift boats 50ft from the River Weaver to the Trent & Mersey Canal high above. The visitor centre provides a free interactive exhibition, and make sure you see the lift control centre, enabling you to get up close with the lift on its busy daily schedule.

The café serves up a delicious lunch, then you can travel on board the Edwin Clark boat trip on a journey between the river and the canal.

At the National Waterways Museum you can explore the historic buildings and then climb aboard the canal boat, Centaur, for a boat trip on the Shropshire Union Canal. The 30-minute tour takes you through a fascinating industrial landscape. Your guide will tell the stories behind the passing bridges and quaysides and bring to life the changing fortunes of the canal and its people.
