Set out on a family cycling break in the Heart of Devon

Exeter and East devon, Devon

Enjoy a cycling break with friends or family and discover the windswept scenery of the Exe Estuary, just south of Exeter, and its abundant wildlife.

The Exe Estuary Trail is part of Route 2 of the National Cycle Network.  This 26-mile route runs on both sides of the estuary, with ferry links across the river. Suitable for all abilities, the route is mainly level and off-road, offering excellent views of the Exe Estuary and its wildlife reserves.

Passing through some beautiful riverside villages steeped in maritime history, there are plenty of opportunities to stop off for some sightseeing or a spot of lunch to refuel.

Cycle hire is available from a range of outlets, including Saddles and Paddles on Exeter’s quayside, or Route 2 Café Bar and Cycle Hire in Topsham.

Experience the thrill of the Tour of Britain, which returns to the Heart of Devon in September. Follow in the bicycle wheels of the riders by cycling sections of the route before or after the race.
