Start the trip at the classic holiday resort of Bridlington, with two award-winning beaches straddling its harbour. Explore North and South beach, with their beach chalets and fun land train – go on, you know you want to get on board – and Bridlington harbour, in this popular place to visit.

Don’t leave without sampling some of Bridlington’s restaurants. It’s the lobster capital of Europe, with Bridlington Bay lobster to be found in many eateries, as well as its stand-out fish and chips. Try some indulgent tiffin at Tiffin & Co bakery, or fish and chips with views over the harbour, from Naked Fish.

Visit a stately home

Time for a bit of culture, with a visit to nearby Sewerby Hall and Gardens, with its fabulous views from the clifftop, beautiful gardens and zoo – one of the area’s popular places to visit. Or, you could take a short drive west, where you’ll find another of the top things to do in Yorkshire, the magnificent Burton Agnes Hall.

Take a walk

The beautiful Yorkshire Wolds are famous for their wonderful walking and cycling routes, so pick up the Wold Rangers Way, or Yorkshire Wolds Way and enjoy a ramble, or pedal, through the rolling valleys.

Hornsea to South Dalton

Have a paddle at Hornsea

Have a paddle, walk, or fly a kite at the seaside town of Hornsea with its Blue Flag beach, long promenade and a fascinating smuggling history. This popular day-out destination is one of the top things to do in East Yorkshire.

Row a boat

However, there’s much more to Hornsea than its beachfront. If you head slightly inland, you’ll come to Hornsea Mere – the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire and a lovely place to visit. This Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is a great destination for birdwatching. Hire a rowing boat and explore from the water.

Picnic in a vineyard

A short drive west brings you to the hamlet of Aike and Laurel Vines winery. This low-carbon, sustainable vineyard and winery is a lovely place to visit. If you time your arrival right, you can enjoy a picnic and vineyard tour.

Cuddle a cow

Yes, you read that correctly, you can cuddle a cow or go on a Highland cow safari at Dumble Farm and learn about their conservation work. This neighbouring farm to Laurel Vines also offers a combined ticket with the winery, called a Herd it on the Grapevine package.

Treat yourself at Pipe and Glass

Finally, it’s time to treat yourself at one of the best restaurants in East Yorkshire – Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass, in the surrounds of Dalton Estate. Enjoy a gourmet dinner and you can also stay the night in one of its boutique rooms.

Burton Constable to Spurn Point

Visit Burton Constable Hall

Visiting Burton Constable Hall  is one of the most popular things to do near Hull. Explore the Elizabethan mansion and all its treasures, then roam the Capability Brown-designed gardens and wildlife trails.

Head to Hedon

Next, make a pit stop at the lovely market town of Hedon, with its grand church known as the King of Holderness. Explore the town, visit Hedon Museum and refuel in its restaurants, pubs and cafes.

Take a walk round Withnersea

Another Blue Flag beach is to be found at wonderful Withernsea, a popular place to visit near Hull, where you can take a long beach walk, build sandcastles or go for a paddle. Walk, or take a pedal along the promenade and check out its iconic twin Pier Towers.

Leg it to the lighthouse

While in Withernsea, don’t miss the Withernsea Lighthouse Museum, in the unusual lighthouse, which sits in the middle of the town, as opposed to on the headland. For one of the most interesting things to do in East Yorkshire, climb to the top for fabulous views, then relax in its glorious grounds.

Stop at Spurn Point

Finally, do leave enough time to visit the sweeping landscape that is Spurn National Nature Reserve – East Yorkshire’s own Land’s End. Spanning three and a half miles, the peninsula is one of the must-visit places near Hull and a protected nature reserve. If you want a longer guided experience, book a Spurn Safari.
