Join the party at The William Hill St Leger Festival, the oldest classic horse race in the world, with an array of music, fine food, arts and culture – and racing of course!
Ever since its foundation in 1776, the St Leger Stakes has been one of the biggest events in Doncaster’s social calendar. Over time, the four days of racing have expanded into a 10-day festival, celebrating 2,000 years of Doncaster's history and culture across the town every September.
The festival programme has more than 200 events alongside the race meetings. Enjoy the spectacle of Roman soldiers setting up camp at the Minster and marching through town. Dance at Doncaster Live – a fantastic free rock concert – watch opera and live music in Regent Square, see special shows at the town’s theatres and have a ride at the funfairs by the racecourse.
If you’re in an extra-celebratory mood, don’t miss a champagne breakfast, on offer at several venues, or indulge in some wine tasting at the Minster during the town’s beer festival.
The St Leger Stakes takes place between 11-14 September, with plenty of events and things to do in the surrounding days.
Discover one of the most exciting wildlife parks in Yorkshire - an indoor rainforest paradise with birds and butterflies, creepy crawlies and reptiles, cheeky Meerkats and minibeasts from around the world.
