Rainy Day Activities: Venture into the gruesome York Dungeon
York, North Yorkshire
There’s spine-chilling fun to be had in this dungeon, where 2,000 horrible years of history are brought to life by grisly theatre and sudden frights.
York Dungeon is a live-action interactive horror show that draws on thousands of years of horrific local history. Join the tour and be prepared for some seriously nasty things to happen along the way, from violent executions and destructive plagues to a devious plot to blow up Parliament. You’ll meet a range of decidedly sinister characters from various historical eras, including the suitably named Eric Bloodaxe and the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin. Try not to lose your way in the Labyrinth of the Lost, or to fall victim to the Torturer’s enthusiastic demonstrations of his work.
The dungeon brings together a talented cast of actors, funny scripts, immersive sets and special effects to make a hair-raisingly enjoyable walkthrough experience. Housed completely indoors, it's an ideal way to entertain yourselves on a rainy day.
Be sure to book tickets in advance to save money (online price is £12.95 for adults and £11.95 for children); combi deals with Sea Life Scarborough are also available.
