Horse-riding in Burnham-on-Sea
Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset
Show off your horsemanship as you trot your way along beautiful sandy beaches.
Beaches usually evoke thoughts of sandcastles and tousled surf, but how about riding along one on horseback? And unlike most beachy activities, horse riding can be enjoyed year round – just imagine the exhilaration of an atmospheric ride in the depths of winter.
For a magnificent setting to re-enact the famous Chariots of Fire running scene (with the horse doing the running) head for Burnham-on-Sea. One of Europe's longest sand beaches stretches from here, past the holiday villages of Berrow and Brean to reach the National Trust headland of Brean Down. Along the seven-mile beach, the sand is firm and the tide goes out far so there’s plenty of room for cantering. Look out for secluded sand dunes, shipwrecks and birdlife along the way.
Whether you’re looking for a romantic ride, family activity or just some time to yourself, you can always take in the scenery and sea air with your own four-legged friend on this Somerset beach.
