Follow in the footsteps of Tolkien on the Tolkien Trail
Hurst Green, Lancashire
From the twin towers of Stonyhurst College to the dramatic countryside of the Ribble Valley, follow in the footsteps of JRR Tolkien.
The five and a half mile Tolkien Trail explores the picturesque Ribble landscape that surrounds Stonyhurst College, where JRR Tolkien spent much of his time whilst he was working on Lord of The Rings during the Second World War. Its richly beautiful woodland landscapes may have inspired him when creating his epic tale, so see what connections you can make as you explore. The trail starts and finishes at the Shireburn Arms in Hurst Green where you can stay for the night or call in for a pint.
