Amble in a winter wonderland

Bamford, Derbyshire

Wrap up warm, brave the elements and take a stroll around Derwent Dam in the Upper Derwent Valley, an area renowned for its dramatic scenery.

It’s a great feeling once you’ve stepped out and braved the chilly winter weather on a bracing walk, and Derwent Dam makes a spectacular backdrop when the winter sun shimmers across the water. Choose from an easy waterside ramble to a strenuous hike on the high moorland (don’t forget a map, compass and the knowledge to use them if you decide to take a challenging route). Alternatively, try a self-guided circular trail from the visitor centre at Fairholmes, an easy route to follow with its colour banded waymark posts.

After a day exploring the Upper Derwent Valley, put your feet up at the nearby multi award-winning Yorkshire Bridge Inn, where a warm welcome, a roaring fire and top-quality food awaits.
