Sporting heritage

With claims to being the birthplace of the game of association football, both the union and league codes of rugby, cricket and rowing regattas, sporting heritage abounds. Go on stadium tours and visit sports museums dedicated to the willow bat and cherry-red ball of cricket, a place for visitors to ogle an old-fashioned hand-stitched leather football or find out just why a chap from Rugby school thought it a good idea to pick up the football and run off down the pitch with it. And then there's real tennis, the precursor to lawn tennis, a game played on an elongated grass tennis court with walls at either end, to put the quirk into any sporting quest for the curious.
