A hike along Hadrian's Wall
- Sightseeing
- Suggested time at location: 3 hours

History meets hiking (with the bonus of gorgeous scenery!) at this hallowed attraction. The wall spans across 73 miles and once guarded the North West frontier of the Roman Empire so it’s no wonder Hadrian’s Wall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site! We went on a tour with Handy History who showed us ancient artefacts, Roman forts to wall carvings that made us blush!
Indie shopping in Hexham
- Shopping
- Suggested time at location: 2 hours

Head to The Vintage Emporium and lose yourself in a treasure trove of vintage finds (I bought a darling coat for £36). Music lovers will love sifting through thousands of vinyl records and music merchandise at Vinyl Attic. You’ll spot the ‘Truly Independently Owned and Operated' sign across tons of local shops in Hexham. It’s the perfect place to pick up a souvenir for someone special or a gift for yourself (go on, you deserve it).
Eat local at The Pheasant Inn
- Eatery
- Suggested time? 1-2 hours

It’s easy to find the best of British cuisine here. I adored The Pheasant Inn with its cosy fire, friendly staff and comforting dishes. Alot of the food I came across on my travels was locally-sourced and served in generous portions. Right up my street! If it’s seafood you’re after, head to The Old Boathouse for the catch of the day, seafood platters to a grilled lobster, enjoyed with a view of Amble Harbour.
Ad Gefrin Whisky Distillery and Bistro
- Eatery
- Suggested time at location: 2 hours

Ad Gefrin is England’s most northern whisky distillery and is home to Northumberland’s First Single Malt Whisky (plus INCREDIBLE vegetarian food – who knew?) Opened in 2023, it celebrates Northumberland’s heritage and features an Anglo-Saxon themed museum and an immersive whisky tasting tour. Make a beeline for the tasting room with its panoramic screens playing dreamy art and music from local artists.
Drift off at The Tempus Hotel
- Accommodation
- Suggested time at location: Overnight

End your trip with an award-winning slumber. The Tempus may be relatively new to Northumberland, but it has already gathered accolades including The Times’ Top 100 Best Places to Stay. Each room bursts with character and has lots of luxury touches such as free-standing baths and super plush bedding. Enjoy dinner at The Orangery onsite which has an international inspired menu. You’ll want to leave room for dessert.
Top Tip - Travel by car
- Sightseeing
I recommend travelling by car to get the most out of your trip, passing country roads and scenic views along the way.
