Take a tour of Hadrian’s Wall and hidden Cumbria
Hadrian's Wall, Cumbria
Spend the day discovering the Romans’ most significant monument in Britain, Hadrian’s Wall, and some of Cumbria’s most scenic spots.
Mountain Goat Tours offer a day-long tour that begins in Windermere and takes in thousands of years of history, before returning back to the Lakes. Intrigued?
The tour takes in some of Cumbria’s prettiest countryside, the remote landscape close to the Scottish Borders, and then moves onto 13th century Lanercost Priory. You then journey to the 80-mile long (129km) Wall conceived by the Emperor Hadrian in AD122, and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Follow it past milecastles and towers to your lunch stop at 'The Roman Army Museum'. In the afternoon the tour continues along the Wall and you’ll see the spectacular Fell End, Sunny Rigg, Great Chesters and finally Steel Rigg. Keep your camera close for the return journey that shows off superb views across Cumbria.
Windermere is in the Lake District, northwest England, and is 3 hours from London by train.
