Retreat to Ruthern Valley
Bodmin, Cornwall
Get some peace and quiet in a wooded valley inhabited with squirrels and wild rabbits.
Have you ever gone away camping in a bid to get away from it all, only to be woken up by the snoring coming from next-door’s tent? Thankfully this won’t happen at Ruthern Valley, in Cornwall.
Tucked away in a secluded wooded spot on the edge of Bodmin Moor, this family-friendly site prides itself on having large pitches, so the kids can run around without disturbing anyone other than the resident squirrels and wild rabbits (and they‘re all used to it).
In fact there’s loads to keep active children occupied here, including an on-site adventure playground and the family-friendly Camel Trail cycle route just five minutes away.
While most people opt for a canvas roof (whether that’s a traditional tent, a yurt or tipi), there are also four cedarwood bungalows to choose from – ideal if you’re looking to get close to nature, but not that close – and several sturdy wooden wigwams, which come complete with a microwave, fridge and kettle.
Mind you, we’ve a feeling that you won’t be spending much time indoors while you’re here...
