Experience Wiltshire's magical woodlands in spring

Marlborough, Wiltshire

Witness a transformation of spring’s colours in West Woods, near Marlborough, from late April as the green woodlands are carpeted with bluebells.

West Woods, southwest of Marlborough in Wiltshire, is well known locally as an ideal spot for seeing carpets of bluebells during the spring months.

With the bluebells usually appearing during late April and continuing into May, walking trails are available through the woods and are perfect to explore if you’re looking for cheap things to do in Wiltshire’s countryside.

Follow the trails past the ancient sites dotted around the Kennet Valley, bypassing long barrows, stone circles and Roman settlements, many of which are free to visit. Or, for more ideas on cheap things to do, hire bikes in Marlborough and cycle the trails instead.

Start your cheap UK break by packing a picnic and enjoying lunch on the tables set up in these tranquil surroundings. Make sure you bring your camera along too!
