Discover the history of Hertford Castle

Hertford, Hertfordshire

As part of National Heritage Weekend, Hertford Castle will open its doors to the public free of charge.

This Norman castle has a rich and eventful history, regularly visited by English Royalty and even played host to English Parliamentary meetings during the 1563 London plague.

Discover more about Hertford Castle on this open day and explore the basement with its dungeons, the Robing Room and the Downshire Suite. This event will also mark 800 years since the siege of Hertford Castle.

Step back in time and watch falconry and medieval weapon displays on the Castle lawn.  Take part in other medieval activities such as archery, pottery, craft activities and a medieval knight encampment.

Whilst in Hertford, visitors can enjoy the rich heritage of this county town with other historic buildings being open to the public.
