Discover all the treasures of Bowood

Calne, Wiltshire

Explore the historic parklands at Bowood, and uncover a laboratory, a spa, and even a round of golf.

Located in north Wiltshire, Bowood House is the ancestral home of the Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne. Within the House you’ll find the laboratory where Joseph Priestly first discovered oxygen, a chapel still used by the family and a remarkable collection of family heirlooms and works of art from across the centuries.

The House is set within a Capability Brown designed landscape, and contains a remarkable collection of trees and shrubs, as well as a tranquil lake. In late spring, the rhododendron gardens are opened to the public and are awash with colour and look out for tours of the private walled garden that are offered at certain points throughout the year. Enjoy a stay here and make a break of it at Bowood’s very own spa hotel and golf resort.
