Cycle the Test Way and relax by the world-famous River Test

Test Valley, Hampshire

From the experienced cyclist to a family fun day out, this gentle ride is an excellent way to experience the tranquil Test Valley countryside.

Start at The Bear and Ragged Staff at Stoneymarsh, and cycle through the heart of the Test Valley to The Mayfly pub at Fullerton. Named after the trout’s favourite meal, this lovely hostelry sits on the Test with a garden stretching down the river’s edge. It provides the perfect spot to soak up the surroundings, whether it’s the sounds of nature or watching the fishermen ply their trade.

The Test Way is conveniently flat and draws a line through the idyllic landscape, joining up many stopping points to enjoy the scenic surroundings. You will be following the route of the historic Sprat and Winkle railway line, which started life as a canal. The halfway point is Stockbridge, with its countless public houses and tea shops to choose from.

It’s the perfect retreat from which to appreciate the beauty of the River Test as it slides south to Romsey.
