Olympic inspiration on home soil

Hot on the heels of Wimbledon and the Euros, the summer of sport will continue with the delayed Tokyo Olympics kicking off on 23 July. What’s more on 28 July it’s only one year to go until Birmingham plays host to the Commonwealth Games, 10 years on from the iconic London Olympics 2012.

With new sports on the Tokyo schedule including surfing, skateboarding and sport climbing, here’s a round-up of ways to try your hand on home soil this summer. Plus, for those feeling nostalgic for 2012, we’ve included ways to plan an Olympic or Commonwealth Games themed day out.

Recent VisitEngland research* shows that the feeling of a cold drink in hand and a visit to a pub garden were amongst the activities most missed by Brits during lockdown, so with a host of alcohol themed celebration days coming up over the summer months there’s no better time to plan a trip around your favourite tipple.
