In 2015, the beautiful 17th century manor house of Mapperton and its surrounding estate were transformed into Everdene Farm for the adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s well-loved novel ‘Far From the Madding Crowd’. 

Many primary scenes were filmed here and it’s clear to see why the film’s director, Thomas Vinterberg, instantly fell in love with Mapperton; a glorious harmony of golden sandstone standing in a romantic and unspoiled Dorset combe. 

Visit the house and gardens this Spring and you too can feel Far From the Madding Crowd.
