Visit the impressive Nunney Castle

Nunney, Somerset

Step back in time and experience life as it was at this moated, 14th-century castle.

When Sir John de la Mere built Nunney Castle in 1370 surely he can’t have imagined that it would still be attracting attention over 700 years later?

Whatever the answer to this, it’s definitely worth a visit – whether you’re a history buff or not. This is one of the most impressive castles in England (at least in our humble opinion), and it doesn’t take much to picture armour-clad knights clanking around the place.

In fact this whole area is drenched in history: the nearby village of Nunney has a 2,000-year history that’s checkered by invasions and unrest. Despite its turbulent past, though, the village has a stylish, 17th-century coaching inn and luxury B&B – perfect as a base for the weekend.
