Uncover the charms of the historic city of Wells

Wells, Somerset

Wells is a great place to base yourself for a short break to explore the city along with nearby attractions, such as Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury with its Abbey and famous Tor.

Visit the magnificent gothic cathedral with its striking West Front towers above the much unchanged medieval city, and take a walk up picturesque Vicars’ Close, said to be the oldest continually inhabited street in Europe. Stroll around the beautiful moated Bishop’s Palace with castellated walls and swans that ring a bell for their food.

Wells was heavily featured in the cult film Hot Fuzz and you can do a tour of many of the locations seen in the film, including the big finale in the Market Place. During November, Somerset’s famous illuminated carnival dazzles crowds as it slowly winds through the narrow streets of the city.
