Experience rock climbing in the picturesque Wye Valley

Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire

The spectacular Wye Valley cliffs offer a unique and beautiful playground for what is now one of the UK's largest participation sports.

At Symonds Yat alone, there are 800 rock climbs of varying height and difficulty, and it's a perfect venue for individual and family forays into the vertical world.

The area also sports the famous Symonds Yat Pinnacle - a 100ft free standing pillar of rock that soars above the valley; surprisingly it has routes accessible to those aged 8 to 80. Climbing taster sessions and advanced courses run on demand all year round.

Summit Mountaineering's 'Sven' Hassall joked that "There are two types of people in this world; rock climbers and those who aren't yet rock climbers.
