Eastern art in a Western setting

Bath, Somerset

Visit one of England’s most unusual art collections, in the heart of Georgian Bath.

Set in a beautiful Georgian townhouse, the Museum of Eastern Art is one of Bath’s newest and most intriguing collections.

Rich with ceramics, jades, bronzes and much more, the museum offers a small but comprehensive slice of art from China, Japan, Korea and South-east Asia.

Opened in 1993, the museum has quickly become popular with tourists and locals alike, and regularly features live events and exhibitions that bring to life the craftsmanship of East Asia from 5,000 BC to the present day.

This can be seen in its renowned bamboo carvings, which are among Europe’s finest. The museum takes education seriously, too, so if you’re keen you can buy a wide range of eye-opening, mind-expanding publications.
