ShareJoin thousands in enjoying some of the finest folk music in Europe, at a gorgeous country hall in Cambridge.
In 1964, local fireman and political activist Ken Woollard was approached by Cambridge City Council to organise a music festival. Buoyed by a documentary about the Newport Jazz Festival, Ken started the Cambridge Folk Festival, which still attracts many of the world's top acts to Cherry Hinton Hall, in the bucolic suburb of the same name.
Today, the festival continues to go from strength to strength, adding stars such as Mumford & Sons, Joan Baez and Idlewild to its alumni each summer. Ken worked as the festival organiser until his death in 1993, but he'd surely be happy with his festival's status as a highlight of the summer party circuit.
The 2024 Cambridge Folk Festival will take place 25 to 28 July.
