Find fabulous free fun by the sea in Portsmouth

Portsmouth, Hampshire

If you're looking for a great break that won’t break the bank this summer then Portsmouth is the place to be.

For free things to do, take a waterfront walk along the Millennium Promenade from the Historic Dockyard, through Old Portsmouth, where you can explore the historic fortifications, Portsmouth Cathedral and the Garrison Church.

Continue along the promenade into Southsea, stop for a game of rounders or to fly a kite on Southsea Common’s vast green expanse or play on the beach and paddle or swim in the sea.

Visit Henry VIII's Southsea Castle, open free of charge, where you can explore the Castle Keep and tunnels and enjoy fabulous views from the ramparts across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. There’s Canoe Lake for a spot of crabbing and play park with water splash and zip wire.

With a range of well-priced accommodation and food and drink on offer and a season of free events throughout the summer, Portsmouth is a great choice for cheap weekend breaks.
