York Barbican

York Barbican Auditorium

Centrally located and easily accessed by public transport or car, York Barbican provides a unique and alternative venue for a variety of conferences and events.

  • With multiple versatile spaces, it can accommodate any event requirement. From small personal meetings to conferences of up to 1,400 attendees and dinners of up to 400 guests.
  • The 1,400-capacity auditorium features two floors with retractable stalls seating, flexible staging and an in-house PA system. 
  • The 550-capacity exhibition hall is a versatile blank canvas, which can provide the perfect large space to host a wide variety of events, such as exhibitions, runway shows, evening celebrations and conferences. It can also be used in conjunction with the auditorium. 
  • The Lendal Suites are multifunctional spaces, which can be split into two rooms. This works well for smaller meetings, training days or conferences up to 70 delegates. The 110-capacity Fishergate Suite is a light and spacious suite, ideal for conferences.

2020 marked 50 years of conferences and events at the University of York. Venues are nestled within the beautiful campus of the University, sitting alongside world-renowned research facilities and departments, giving delegates an innovative, creative space to process conference themes. 

  • University of York has over 200 meeting rooms across 12 event venues, situated either at the beautiful lakeside campuses or in the centre of York. Bed and breakfast accommodation and free use of the York Sports Centre is also available. 
  • From innovative spaces such as floating pods to auditoriums and seminar rooms, York Conferences offers event planners an array of fantastic choices for their events. The larger venues, with a capacity of up to 1,190, are complemented with adjacent breakout spaces, meeting rooms and cafés to ensure events are self-contained.
  • A 305-capacity Piazza Building opened in January 2018 and is situated on the modern Campus East. The building has a lecture theatre, as well as state-of-the-art seminar rooms, breakout spaces and a 200-seat dining area. 
  • The University’s Exhibition Centre has 900sqm of space, three tiered lecture theatres, six flat-floored breakout rooms and a restaurant.

The popular York Racecourse, located 1.5 miles outside the city centre, offers superb conference facilities in an attractive setting with views across to the winning post.

  • York Racecourse offers an extensive range of spacious, modern and flexible suites and the capacity to cater for up to 1,400 diners across the whole venue.
  • Conference and exhibition space is located in two grandstands, both of which have been built in the last few years. They offer 2,000 free on-site parking spaces and 2,500 metres of external tarmac courtyard, perfect for extending your event outdoors. 
  • York Racecourse has over 2,000sqm / 21.527 sqft of internal exhibition space and additional external grassed areas for marquees.
  • The historic, antique filled committee room is ideal for high-end fine dining, with first-class catering. For large groups, the expansive Voltigeur Suite can comfortably accommodate up to 650 guests.

National Railway Museum

Groups can journey back in time to discover how high-speed rail travel began and experience the working life of a station. They’ll explore over 200 years of history and find out how railways shaped our world.

  • With a collection that includes over one million objects, spanning 300 years, the National Railway Museum is a celebration of human endeavour and achievement. The stories that run through the collection provide creative and inspiring backdrops for events including conferences, dinners, receptions, and parties.
  • The largest space in the conference centre is called the Mallard and Rocket Suite. It combines two rooms and can host up to 130 delegates theatre-style. 
  • The Duchess of Hamilton Suite is one large room with a capacity of 140 theatre-style. 
  • The Great Hall is ideal for 1,000-capacity receptions or dinners for up to 250 guests. Treat groups to an up-close and personal experience featuring exhibits including the 1938 Mallard locomotive, the Evening Star, the last steam locomotive ever built for British Railways, and the Japanese Shinkanseen or ‘Bullet Train’.

Principal York

The Principal, York
 

The Principal York is a classic Victorian railway hotel situated adjacent to York train Station. Give guests a true taste of York with a meeting, conference or event where the spirit and history of the city is ever present.

  • The four-star hotel boasts a large events centre, accommodating up to 400 delegates, as well as 10 additional meeting and private dining rooms with capacities that range from six to 100 people.
  • Situated in more than three acres of private landscaped gardens, Principal York is perfect for team building and outdoor events.
  • The hotel offers 155 guest rooms and suites. The majority are in the main house, and the grandest of them look out across the gardens to York Minster in the distance.
  • The Refectory restaurant is an ideal choice for delegate lunch breaks, whilst the elegant Garden room is perfect for pre-dinner drinks.
