Tolkien’s family moved to Birmingham whilst he was a child and all around the city are sights that inspired his famous books.

Sarehole Mill was once a favourite playground for Tolkien and his brothers, the Mill and surrounding areas are believed to be the inspiration behind Hobbiton and the Shire. Take a tranquil tour around the mill which has now been restored to its former glory and is an essential part of the Tolkien trail.

Tolkien fans will want to visit Moseley Bog too, another beloved childhood play area of Tolkien. Wander through this serene untouched piece of woodland, which is recalled in Tolkien’s description of the "Old Forest".
