The Forest Side in Grasmere and the highly-acclaimed Gilpin Hotel and Lake House in Windermere have both been awarded one Michelin star each after impressing inspectors with their fine cuisine. It takes the total of Michelin starred restaurants in Cumbria to four, adding to the two star L'Enclume in Cartmel and The Samling in Ambleside, which has one star.
As well as being recognised by the Michelin Guide, the Lake District, Cumbria boasts four other 3 AA Rosette establishments; Lake Road Kitchen in Ambleside, The Cottage in the Wood near Keswick, Rogan & Company in Cartmel and Hipping Hall in Kirkby Lonsdale.
