The Beacon is an exciting, interactive museum that brings the history and stories of the Lake District to life. The displays in its collection sit alongside simple, handy exhibition graphics and are packed with things to see, touch hear and even smell. 

Other features

Fully accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs, the museum even has wheelchairs available for hire. If you have any visual or hearing impairments, there are guides on hand to take you through the museum as well as subtitled video presentations, induction loop systems on all audio presentations and transcripts of audio and oral history presentations. You can also pick up tactile partial museum guide and large print literature if you need it.

The customer service here is top-notch too, with all staff having undergone a variety of training, including the Welcome All accessibility awareness course.
