Discover ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ in Yorkshire

Thirsk, North Yorkshire

Tour Yorkshire writer and vet James Herriot's original home, recreated to look just as it did in the 1940s, in the picturesque town of Thirsk.

You’ve probably read the books written by James Alfred Wight (better known as James Herriot) or watched ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ on TV.  Now come and see where England’s most famous vet lived, worked and relaxed.

Visit his home and surgery in Thirsk, taking visitors back to what life was like when James was a vet in Yorkshire. See the car he drove, step into the TV set, try your hand at being a vet and even experience what it was like to hide in a World War II air raid shelter… just don’t forget the chickens!

Continue the animal theme with a visit to Beacon Alpacas, a farm devoted to the raising of these spirited animals. Take a woolly companion out with you on a walk through the English countryside, with spectacular views over the Vale of York and the chalk White Horse at Kilburn.
