Get interactive at the Roman Baths and discover the gory details about curses, witchcraft and horrible hygiene in ancient times.
At the heart of the World Heritage Site on Britain's only natural hot spring, the Roman Baths consist of a magnificent temple and bathing complex that still flows with naturally hot water. The experience will keep children as well as adults happy, with costumed characters that will tell you stories of those who lived and worked there 2,000 years ago.
A special audio tour just for children is included in the admission price. There’s plenty of fascinating grisly artefacts to discover, such as reusable toilet sponges and sticks, and ‘strigils’ – curved tools that were predecessors to soap and used for scraping oil off the skin.
Keep an eye out for the scary face of the Gorgon too – some say he is Medusa. Gorgons had snakes instead of hair and turned you to stone if you looked at them - watch out!
