English Islands

Coastal landmarks and Islands

As an island nation some of our most striking national landmarks are to be found around our coastline. You can stay in a lighthouse, which for centuries guided sailing vessels round hazardous rocks and safely into harbour. Off our shores you can visit one of the smaller English islands. A giant is said to have lived in mystical St Michael’s Mount, reachable by foot from the Cornish mainland when the tide is low. Walk atop the chalk white cliffs of the south coast, marvelling at the array of flora and fauna that line the paths. Humming Vera Lynn’s ‘The White Cliffs of Dover’ is compulsory.
