Celebrate Lewis Carroll’s Cheshire

Author Lewis Carroll is one of Cheshire’s most famous sons. Carroll’s father, Reverend Charles Dodgson, as vicar at Daresbury Church in Northern England for many years, installed the magnificent stained glass windows depicting scenes from Alice in Wonderland. The Lewis Carroll Centre offers information on the author’s family and life in the area. Daresbury is 2 hours 45 minutes by train or 3 hours 30 minutes by car from London

Carroll’s famous works refer to the Cheshire Cat; the cat was always grinning because, according to Carroll, Cheshire dairies brimmed so full with milk and cream that to be a cat in Cheshire was something to smile about. An afternoon tea fit for the most ardent cream-lover and discerning Mad Hatter can be enjoyed at Cheshire’s award-winning Davenports Tea Room, which is styled on a quaint old English tea room and themed around Alice in Wonderland.
