Ride the Water Rail Way cycle route

Lincoln, Lincolnshire

Begin your ride in the city and then head out to the Wolds.

Aptly named, this cycle route sets off from Waterside South Bridge in the historic cathedral city of Lincoln and takes you along the River Witham to Woodhall Spa on the very southern tip of the wooded Lincolnshire Wolds.

Incidentally, Woodhall Spa was home to RAF 617 Squadron, famous for their daring mission in the Dambuster Raid. And your mission to cover all 17 and a half miles of the route will be made all the more fun by the range of attractions lining the way (don’t worry, there are plenty of good turnaround points if you don’t fancy doing the whole thing).

The trail through the vast fenland is dotted with inspirational sculptures celebrating Lincolnshire wildlife as well as the words of Lincolnshire poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson. As you ride under the vast skies keep your eyes open for local rare breeds of Lincoln Red cattle, Lincoln Longwool sheep and Curly Coat pigs.
