Uncover the story of West Midland’s industrial heritage

Dudley, West Midlands

Go back to the where it all started, the Black Country Living Museum – home of the Industrial Revolution.

Blessed with peaceful rolling countryside and modern cosmopolitan cities that don’t look back, you may be surprised to discover that the West Midlands made one of the most monumental and important contributions to the world as we know it today.

It was here during the 1830s, in an area named ‘The Black Country’, that the Industrial Revolution was born. Manufacturing, engineering and innovation became mechanised and the first industrial landscape in the world was established.

At the Black Country Living Museum you can get a unique insight into the lives of our ancestors and how machines and manufacturing developed.

Stretching over 26 acres, it’s the largest open-air museum in England and features an original styled village full of residents ready to interact with you, a network of trams as well as memorabilia and innovations from the time. It’s the best way to experience the Industrial Revolution without the noise, smog and soot of yesteryear.
