Wander a tranquil 1920s garden
Coton, Northamptonshire
The 10-acre gardens of Coton Manor sit in peaceful Northamptonshire countryside.
Originally laid out in the 1920s by the grandparents of the current owner, Coton Manor comprises a number of small individual gardens, providing variety throughout the year. The mellow Northamptonshire stone of the 17th-century manor house acts as focal point, with the walls supporting climbing roses, clematis and shrubs. The York-stone terraces are filled with pots overflowing with pelargoniums, verbenas, heliotropes, salvias and agapanthus.
The rest of the garden slopes gently down a hillside from the house and is landscaped on different levels. Old yew and holly hedges complement the borders, packed with inspirational colour throughout the seasons. The relaxing trickle of water is everywhere with streams, ponds and fountains. Beyond the garden is woodland where you can catch the bluebells in early May and a wildflower meadow that blooms during mid-June to mid-July.
