Travel across Hampshire’s countryside on the Watercress Line

Alresford, Hampshire

Witness the sights, sounds, smells and magic of steam travel from a bygone age and journey through Hampshire’s countryside on a restored steam train.

The Mid Hants Railway Watercress Line was once used to transport passengers, local watercress and other produce up to market at Covent Garden and beyond. Join the line at the Georgian town of Alresford or the bustling market town of Alton.

On your journey you can stop at Ropley, Medstead and Four Marks stations and marvel at their preserved history. Kids can learn something new about the railway with quiz and activity sheets, and you can view current restoration projects in progress from the viewing galleries in the engineering workshops at Ropley station.

The picnic area at Ropley station gives kids space to blow off steam and play on the climbing frame. Enjoy following in some famous footsteps by walking over the Kings Cross footbridge that featured in the Harry Potter films.
