Birds, boats, batter and beer at Seahouses
Seahouses, Northumberland
Visit the 1843 original Fisherman’s kitchen, sup a pint of Farne Island Ale in a beer garden or indulge in Robson Green’s favourite ice cream.
Take a boat trip from the harbour to the Farne Islands - an off-shore nature reserve with 23 varieties of sea birds including 37,000 pairs of puffins and a large grey seal colony. The views looking back to the coast dotted with ancient castles are simply awesome. St Cuthbert himself agreed, he lived on Inner Farne in the 7th Century and you can visit his chapel.
Wander up to Swallow Fish for an array of the freshest, seasonal fish. Complete with original smokehouses they still employ the same smoking methods as they did 170 years ago. Prefer something less fancy? Seahouses has plenty of excellent fish and chip shops.
How about a round of crazy golf with views out to those lovely islands? Whether you’re 8 or 80, the 18-hole golf course is a lot of fun. For the perfect end to the day, visit Coxon’s and enjoy a traditional Northumbrian ice cream whilst watching the fishing boats come in.
