There’s evidence of an incredible royal heritage at every turn in England, from royal oaks to stately homes and castles. Wander around the state rooms of Windsor Castle, the largest inhabited castle in the world. It is the weekend retreat of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip and their family. The family group often includes Princess Catherine, Prince William and now Prince George. Sandringham House is where the Royal Family gathers to celebrate Christmas and toast the New Year. The sight of Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s London residence, never fails to thrill. Go early, before the crowds gather, to see the magnificent building bathed in a pinkish glow.
