Walk the breadth of spectacular Stanage Edge

Stanage Edge, Derbyshire

Follow in the footsteps of your literary heroes on Stanage Edge, a dramatic rocky outcrop with equally dramatic moorland views in the Peak District.

It’s no wonder Sheffield known as the UK’s Outdoor City: over a third of it lies within the rugged countryside of the Peak District National Park meaning a winning combination of urban culture and access to some of the most stunning scenery in the UK.

A 20-minute drive from the city centre takes you to Stanage Edge, the longest and finest rocky outcrop in Britain. This vast rocky area is popular with fans of outdoor pursuits including walkers, mountain bikers and rock climbers.

You might recognise it from the 2005 version of Pride & Prejudice, with Keira Knightley. And tucked into the scenic panorama from Stanage Edge out across the Peak District moors is the 16th century North Lees Hall, thought to be the model for Thornfield Hall in Charlotte Brontë’s famous novel Jane Eyre. Dramatic indeed!
