Spot rare winter birds on the River Exe Estuary

The River Exe Estuary is a major refuge for wintering wildfowl, when the mild climate and suitable feeding areas attracts tens of thousands of wetland birds, many from Northern and Eastern Europe. Six miles long and a mile across at its widest point, this Site of Special Scientific Interest is also a Ramsar site, a global designation putting it in the same league as the Florida Everglades and the Camargue.

Guided winter bird watching trips led by leading ornithologists from covered and heated vessels operate throughout the winter. With binoculars at the ready, rare winter visitors can include Curlews, Godwits, Dunlins and Brent Geese to name but a few.
