Set off in search of sea glass on the Durham Coast

Seaham, Durham Coast

Search for sea glass, walk the coastal footpath, visit the county’s only marina and enjoy dramatic views in a five-star luxury spa hotel.

Head North East to the Durham Coast this summer and be taken aback by the beauty of this stretch of English coastline.

Set off on a walk along the coastal footpath to reveal dramatic views from the magnesium limestone cliffs. Stop off in the seaside town of Seaham and enjoy the sea breeze as you search for sea glass, smoothed by the tide and highly valued by collectors all over the world; a legacy of the town's Victorian glass industry.

Be amazed as you stand on the beach used in Alien 3, the 1992 film starring Sigourney Weaver, barely recognisable following huge redevelopment that has brought the area Heritage Coast status and the UK landscape award.

Grab fish and chips, or cool down with Ice Cream from the 1950s American-themed parlour. Plus, visit the county’s only marina, from where you can now try a host of activities like kayaking and windsurfing, and don’t miss Heritage Coast Festival, taking place in summer 2017.

Spend the evening with a spot of fine dining at one of Seaham Hall’s award-winning restaurants, wind down at the serenity spa, or enjoy ultimate relaxation in a luxurious wood-fired hot tub in one of the hotels brand new garden rooms, complete with a sea view.
