Walk alongside donkeys in Clovelly Village

Clovelly, Devon

Take a peek back in time as you wander the historical fishing village of Clovelly in North Devon.

You can’t get any more idyllic than the small but perfectly formed Clovelly. Privately-owned, it clings to the North Devon shore, and is a perfect example of a secluded fishing village with a mellow pace and bygone atmosphere.

That’s because the locals maintain a mid-19th century look and feel, meaning you can meander along a narrow, car-free cobbled streets towards the tiny working port and 14th century quay, passing white-washed cottages bearing flowers and donkeys carrying food supplies on your way. Visit here in July for the Clovelly Maritime Festival and you’ll come across sea shanties, seafood kitchens and wine and beer tasting.
