Discover sand dunes and quaint tearooms in Southport

Southport, Merseyside

Travel by road or rail to the classic seaside resort of Southport, springboard to England’s Golf Coast.

The scenic 22-mile trip from Liverpool to Southport takes you along the northwest coast of England, full of scenic beach views, sand dunes and pine woods.

In Southport itself, one of the best places to go is Lord Street, a tree-lined Victorian boulevard home to shops, restaurants and quaint tearooms, as well as the grand Wayfarers Arcade with its glass and iron-domed roof. Stroll along Southport’s pier, the country’s oldest iron pier, then, with the kids in tow, head to the beach and take a boat trip on Marine Lake, the UK's largest man-made leisure lake.

With a great choice of restaurants, along with three theatres, a museum and an art gallery, there’s plenty to keep you and the family entertained.

Golfing fans will also be thrilled to hear that 12 of the UK's finest links courses are nearby too, which together make up England’s Golf Coast. Anyone up for a round?
