Wander around one of England’s oldest medieval houses

Halifax, West Yorkshire

Dating back to 1420, timber-framed Shibden Hall lets you peek into the fascinating life of Anne Lister, as made famous by the BBC ONE / HBO drama ‘Gentleman Jack’.

Shibden’s fascinating history is reflected in its remarkable mix of architectural styles. The 17th century aisled barn and workshops house a carriage collection and displays of different local crafts, including a blacksmiths and saddlers. Look out for the recreated brewhouse and inn – cheers!

Wander through the beautifully restored historic grounds and you’ll discover surprises around every corner including cascades, pools, tunnels and colourful fruit gardens. Row across the boating lake, ride on the miniature railway, play on the pitch-and-putt course or roam through the woodlands that surround the property.

Shibden Hall is in West Yorkshire, less than one mile from Halifax train station. The journey time from London is approximately 3 hours.
