Rainy Day Activities: Cycle the track at Derby Arena

Derby, Derbyshire

Enter the adrenaline-fuelled world of track cycling on Derby's 250-metre indoor Velodrome, suitable for novices, veterans and elite cyclists.

Experience the excitement and thrill of racing around the indoor 250-metre cycle track at Derby Arena. Whether you're a pro or a rookie, the highly-trained and experienced cycling instructors will soon have you whizzing around the banked track. With a 42° angled point, it provides a superb rush of adrenaline, but don't get too cocky - these track bikes don’t have gears or breaks!

So fancy yourself as an Olympic champion? Follow in the cycle tracks of Dame Sarah Storey and Sir Bradley Wiggins (both have raced on this track in the last few years), and book yourself into a session. The fabulous Derby Arena displays the medal colours of gold, silver and bronze on its roof, a legacy to the 2012 Olympics.

If this sounds a bit too active for you, the Derby Arena also hosts special comedy, music and theatre events throughout the year. Check the site's What's On guide to see all the latest shows and get advanced booking information.
