Beach huts, breweries and barmy arcade games

Southwold’s white lighthouse is an iconic image of Suffolk’s coastline. See it up close on a seven-mile walk, which begins and ends in the genteel seaside town, and also takes in the neighbouring village of Walberswick.

Despite being separated by the River Blyth, a footbridge links the two, as does a ‘human ferry’ during the summer.

Southwold is home to the famous Adnams brewery so once back from your walk, reward yourself with a pint of local ale at one of many Adnams pubs in and around the town.

And don’t miss out on a visit to Southwold Pier! Head along the beach front, past the colourful and creatively named beach huts, to the seaside pier. Children and adults will delight in the quirky collection of arcade games at the Under the Pier show. Made by local artist and engineer Tim Hunkin, these include ‘whack a banker’ and the ‘rent-a-dog’.
