Walk through history at Berkeley Castle

Berkeley, Gloucestershire

Walk in the footsteps of Wolf Hall’s real historic characters, and also the actors who went on to play them at Berkeley Castle.

Built in the 12th Century and home to the Berkeley family for over 900 years, Berkeley Castle has a fascinating past and has witnessed many key events in Royal history, making it one of the most remarkable buildings in Britain.

This is where Edward II was imprisoned and murdered in 1327, where the Barons of the West gathered before their meeting with King John at which the Magna Carta was signed, and King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn stayed here after their secret marriage.

Several rooms and the Bailey Gates can be spotted in Wolf Hall scenes – all of which are included in the Castle’s historic tours, making it a magical historical break.
