Enjoy Newcastle’s nightlife – and its famous ales

NewcastleGateshead, Tyne and Wear

Get a real taste of NewcastleGateshead on a local ale trail to buzzing pubs, then head on to catch a live gig in the coolest neighbourhoods.

The first stop on your pub crawl has to be the Bridge Tavern. Set on the stunning Quayside, right by the iconic Tyne Bridge, it has an on-site micro-brewery and an ever-changing choice of real local ales.

Then behave like a Geordie (the nickname for people from the area) and hop from one pub to another: next stop, the Broad Chare, whose bar snacks are famous in the city. Then move on to the second-oldest pub in Newcastle, the Crowne Posada. Legend has it this pub was bought by a Spanish sea captain for his mistress. Ogle the ornate Victorian interiors and drink real ale with friendly locals.

For live music, head to The Cluny in the trendy Ouseburn quarter, which puts on shows by young Geordie bands and international acts.

Newcastle is in northeast England, 2 hours 50 minutes from London by rail.
