Discover why artists and chefs alike love Hastings’ fishing fleet

Hastings, East Sussex

Explore East Sussex’s maritime heritage on Hastings Stade, home to fishermen for over 1000 years, inspiration to J. M. W. Turner and Rick Stein.

The Hastings boats, one of the UK’s largest beach launched fishing fleets, provide inspiration for artists, photographers and, most importantly of all, vital ingredients for discerning connoisseurs of seafood and professional chefs alike.

Join a tour of Hastings Stade to hear about the ‘boys ashore’ and to find out what ‘RX’ means; watch a boat unload its catch.

Walk through the Grade II listed tall black net shops, iconic of Hastings, to visit the Fishermen’s Museum. Housed in a charming former church, the museum is home to the town’s sailing lugger, the Enterprise.

Ride the UK’s steepest funicular railway to the top of the East Hill and Hastings Country Park for magnificent views over Hastings Stade and the Old Town.
